...13U Wins Consolation in Oregon. - July 2007 |

Not the best basketball for the Venom, but the girls still represented the state of Arizona very well. Last year the team played for 5th place and lost. This year the team lost in the 4th place bracket, but was able to come back and win the consolation bracket.
It was the first time for some of the girls to travel with the team and compete in a national level tournament. The first game was good. A few hours off the plane but the girls didn’t look too jetlagged. They won 56-42 against the Orinda Magic Gold from California. We had a slow start but the three 3-point shoots in a row from Tevis, Ebonee, and Nancy jump started a series of fast breaks lead by great rebounding from Tevis and Nici.
After 2 games of bad basketball where they lost to Flight Blue and Oregon City, the girls came back from “lala” land to win the last two games against Emerald City and Team Concepts. The win against Team Concept was a good one since we lost to them last year to take 5th place.

Overall the trip was great. It’s always a threat to spend time with the Venom girls. It’s also nice to leave the summer heat of Arizona for the cool weather and the greenery of Oregon. |
