...13U Wins NJB!

Venom 13U is back on top!  After finishing 3rd in the BCI qualifier and 2nd in the Genies tournament, the team was ready for a 1st place.

 

The Venom organization had 3 teams participating in the tournament (12U, 13U, and 15U)  All teams did great!  The 12U finishing 4th, 15U finishing 3rd place and 13U won the tournament. 

 

Winning the tournament is a great accomplishment for the 13U for many reasons.  The team is extremely talented and every member of the team is a great contributor to the team.  However, regardless of your talent level, it’s always difficult to play an entire tournament with only 7 players.  Out of 10 players, three were missing.  Ashton and Karalee were already committed to play for their school and Julie is spending the summer with her dad. 

 

The team lost their first game by 3 points to the Thunder 12U.  The following 2 games were against teams from New Mexico who couldn’t compete.  Then, we had the chance to play the Thunder again in the semi-final and we were determine to win that game.  And we did!  It was a close game until the last 3 minutes of the game.  With about 3 minutes left in the game, 3 of our players fouled out forcing us to play with 4 players.  Well the four players managed to maintain a 3 points lead and score 5 more points to win the game by 8 points.  Unbelievable basketball.

 

Next was the championship game.  Facing the Genies a team we have never played before, we were on a mission.  With a 14 to 5 lead in the first few minutes of the game, the Genies never recovered and we won the game by 38 points.  It was a great win for us since we had been struggling for a while.
