...13U in Sting Tournament - January 2007 |
|
The Sting tournament was a great one. In the 8th grade division, we had the AZ Best, the Silverstreaks, the Elite, the Sting, the Thunder, the Phenoms, and the Venom.
It wasn’t the best tournament for the Venom. With the lost of Simone Westbrook, the team was looking to find a new balance. The Venom did have 2 new players, Ebony Rhymes and Shea Brown, wearing the black and white for the tournament. Their addition was great, and once we can get practicing together the Venom will be back on top.
The Venom played 4 games in the tournament. The first game was interesting since we started the game with only 4 players, because most of the Venom players participate on the school team, and they had a regional tournament to attend. With the arrival of the 5th player 5 minutes into the first half, the Venom took the lead against the Phenoms. Even if we finished the game with 3 player due to foul trouble, we won the game.
The Venom 2nd game was against our rivals AZ Best. By that time we had all our players back. We give them a good game loosing only by 8 points. We played well but our turnovers were the difference in the game.
Our 3rd game was against the Thunder. They have a very young tenacious team. Half way through the game, we started using Shea’s height at 6’2” and saw a huge advantage. We won the game.
Our last game was against the Silverstreak. They do not have big players, they do not have exceptional players, but they are extremely disciplined and fundamental. We played our worst game against them and lost the game that took us out of the tournament.
We want to say thank you for play with us and hope to have you on the team for the California trip. The Venom will be playing in the SGV tournament in Los Angeles California the weekend of February 19, 2007.
Here is a little about the two players who participated with the Venom in the tournament: |
